John Ferguson's XJ 650 Maxim
The bike was designed mostly by my younger son Chris' to meet his taste. Was built in the summer of 2009 and has about 450 hrs, of labor in it. the triple backbone was cut out and a new single backbone was fabricated along with the integrated fender/tailite. Installed 4 into 1 headers along with K&N filters and rejetted for the improved breathing. That along with stripping about 80 lbs. off of the bike really did liven up the acceleration! Seat is black suede and is very firm!. Headlight, tailight, electrical box and handlebars were all made by us. Frame was modified extensively and all welds were smoothed. Paint is PPG basecoat/clearcoat which I did in my garage ( what a mess! ). Just aquired a 750 Maxim which I will convert to a custom cafe racer over the next year. Have 8 other bikes in various stages of fabrication so the maxim will come along on a slow schedule. Bike is a thumbnail on the main page of thekneeslider.com and the full article is here http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2010/01/07/yamaha-maxim-transformed/. If you click on it there are more pictures and around a 100 comments.
